The Power of Beliefs

When you believe in something you often cherish that belief and you go out of your way to defend it at any cost. What are the beliefs about yourself?

If you are like most people, you probably think that you are 10 pounds overweight; or you are in trouble because either, you didn’t finish school, or you didn’t listen to a family member’s or friend’s advice.

However, sadly though, most people have negative beliefs about themselves. They know and understand very little of who they are and what their full potential really is.  This negative belief system about oneself starts early in our childhood years.

A classic cause of this is when we do something as kids which initiates damaging comments (ie, “you are worthless”, “you’re stupid”) from our parents’ or an authority figure, we start developing limiting beliefs about our capabilities based on these statements if they occur regularly. Then, as we grow up, we turn limiting beliefs into excuses for not pursuing and doing something we aspire to do.

Limiting beliefs are an exhaustive mental and physical waste of energy. If one continues having limiting beliefs about oneself, soon enough it will turn into a self-fulfilling prophecy. The opposite is very true as well; because, if instead you embrace empowering beliefs, you will start to understand how positive the results can be.

Fear on the other hand, can paralyze us from making decisions, which comes from fear of making an unknown mistake. The fear of making a mistake has a higher impact on you than actually making that mistake itself. Are you aware of your life and the areas of your life where you haven’t followed your passion, because you don’t know the result and how uncomfortable it might get? How many times have you taken the known path rather than the unknown path because it is more comforting and easy, rather than it be more rewarding?

Our fear and the limiting beliefs create boundaries in our mind that do not necessarily exist within the physical world we live in. Thus, overcoming your fear barriers can decide once and for all that you are not going to let fear rule your life.
