An Egoistic Love

There is this thing called ego

Which resembles with some people’s definition of a hero

The ego wants me to stay safe

Not be exposed to discomfort and pain

Worry, anxiety, fear, doubt, and shame

Can’t feel those, if I want to resemble an idol of fame

.

.

It’s the same with those who love us and care

They want to protect us from feeling hurt and despair

All in their mind is that they truly care

So don’t try something that you might fail

But let’s be real, is that really fair?

Keeping me safe from what’s out there

.

.

.

Running away from my fears,

I can’t sustain

Not pursuing something that might lead to emotional pain

The worst pain has the best lessons in them

I won’t learn if I’m chained from the pain

I’m not expected to grow if there is nothing to learn
